Introduction
This is a Guide for the Shaddoll archetype, which you might have already known as that one really old archetype from Duelist Alliance that kept appearing in random other decks from time to time.
While Shaddoll had been famously known for their splashability, the only real way to play the deck in its current state is pure due to its xenolocks, locking you from non-Shaddoll monsters from the extra deck. Therefore, this guide will primarily focus on that.
- Shaddoll Cards
- Non-Shaddoll Cards
- Decklists
- Combos
Cards
Maindeck Shaddoll Monsters
For now, we'll just go over the GY effect of all Shaddoll cards. We'll revisit all of them for their flip effects, as that will be more relevant later on.
It's important to remember that all "sent" effects for Shaddoll monsters only trigger off sending the monster for effect, not cost. Therefore, cards like Forbidden Droplet do not work with them.
Shaddoll Squamata
The most important Shaddoll maindeck monster, Loading... is the main target that you send using Loading... 's or Loading... 's effect. When sent to the GY it will send another Shaddoll monster to the GY, getting your Shaddoll monsters into rotation and triggering that monsters effect.
Tohushaddoll Grysta
When sent to the GY, Loading... will fusion summon a Shaddoll fusion monster by banishing the requisite materials from the hand/field/GY. Using this effect will lock you out of the ED except for Shaddoll monsters for the entire turn.
Shaddoll Dragon
Loading... will destroy a spell/trap on the field when it 's sent to the GY, making it the only consistent backrow access of the deck.
Shaddoll Hedgehog
Loading... will add a Shaddoll monster from the maindeck to the hand when sent to the GY, a fairly simple effect and needed for a lot of the mainline combos.
Reeshaddoll Wendi
Loading... will summon a Shaddoll monster from your deck face-down when she's sent to the GY. While this seems like an underwhelming effect, it will be important later on.
Naelshaddoll Ariel
When sent to the GY, Loading... will banish up to 3 cards from the GY. This makes it a good disruption against a wide variety of decks that want access to the GY.
Helshaddoll Hollow
When sent, Loading... will send the top cards of your deck to the GY equal to the different attributes on your field. Not a real effect by today's standard, but you can try 1 of him mainly as a fire attribute for fusion summoning.
Shaddoll Beast
Loading... will draw one card went send to the GY. While you don't usually want to be banking on the draw by Shaddoll Beast, just a simple upstart goblin can be useful to gain some advantage over a combo.
Qadshaddoll Keios
If Loading... is sent to the GY, you can then send another Shaddoll monster in hand to the GY and buff all monsters you control with ATK and DEF equal to the level of the monster sent by Loading... 's effect. While a very underwhelming effect, this does alleviate one of this deck's biggest problems, that being big monsters. If the format calls for it you can try one of these.
Nehshaddoll Genius
Loading... when sent to the GY prevents a player from being able to activate the effects of one face-up monster on the field. This effect can be useful on your turn in order to force out interaction preemptively, or in niche cases on the opponents turn if you can send it.
The Fusers
Shaddoll Fusion
The prototype Loading... itself. While at base it's just a Loading... for Shaddolls cards, if your opponent controls a monster(s) summoned from the ED it lets you use materials directly from the deck, letting you go extremely advantageous with all the aforementioned Shaddolls GY effects, as well as any other potential GY effects triggered.
El Shaddoll Fusion
Quick-Play Loading... , nothing else to say further than letting you fuse during your opponent's turn is a very good effect to have as interaction while doubling as a way for your monsters to dodge targeting effects.
Nephe Shaddoll Fusion
A Loading... that changes the attributes of a monster you equip this to. Not a real effect worth including.
Shaddoll Schism
A Loading... on a continuous trap. Just like Loading... , this card lets you fuse on your opponent's turn while doubling as an interaction with its second effect of sending an opponent's monster on field to the GY with the same attribute as the monster you fusion summon using its effect. Monsters summoned using this card's effect cannot attack directly
Shaddoll Extra Deck
All Shaddoll Fusion Monsters must first be Fusion Summoned. In addition to that, unless otherwise stated, when sent to GY they add a Shaddoll Spell/Trap from the GY to the hand.
El Shaddoll Meshachrer
Loading... is the main playmaker of the deck.
- This card is unaffected by all opponents activated Spell/Trap effects, as well as the effects of monsters with a lower Rank/Level (10) than this card.
- You can pay 800 life points in order to add a Shaddoll card or Void Spell/Trap from your deck to your hand.
- When sent to the GY, Meshachrer can Special Summon one Shaddoll monster from your GY.
Notably, this card must be fusion summoned, so they may not special summon themselves.
As neither of the above effects are a hard once per turn, you can sometimes go through multiple copies of this card in a single turn. In addition to that, they're the only Shaddoll monster that requires 3 monsters, meaning more monsters that you can send off of Loading... . Do note that this card is still affected by all Link monsters effects.
El Shaddoll Construct
- When Special Summoned, Loading... sends any Shaddoll card from the deck to the GY.
- When Loading... battles any Special Summoned monster, you may destroy that monster at the start of the damage step.
This card can not only extend your combos by sending cards like Loading... or Loading... , it can also force out points of interaction by sending cards like Loading... or Loading... . This is one of the decks only ways to out high stated monsters as well. It's also important to note that none of her effects are once per turn, meaning you can frequently use this card in multiples.
El Shaddoll Winda
Your decks main win condition, Loading... prevents both players from being able to summon more than once while she's on the field, as well as not being able to be destroyed by an opponents cards effects. Keeping this card alive and your opponent not having an out to it is frequently how games are won. Make sure to be careful, however, as her lock applies to both players.
El Shaddoll Apkallone
- Loading... cannot be destroyed by battle.
- When Special Summoned, you may target and negate one face-up card your opponent controls.
- If sent to the GY, you may add one Shaddoll card from your Deck or GY to your hand, and then discard a card.
Not only can the third effect of this card function as a starter in cases where you get a less than ideal starting hand, it can also serve as an extender if you need it to, as well as being a good way to recover effects in the grind game. The second effect of this card, while more niche, also comes up sometimes if you need to negate a cards on field effects.
Infernoid Evil
If Infernoid Evil is sent to the GY, you can add a Void Spell/Trap from your deck to your hand. While not technically a Shaddoll card, you can add Loading... from your deck to your hand when you send this card to your GY, making it fairly mandatory to play at one copy.
Shadoll Construct
El Shaddoll Shekhinaga
If a Special Summoned monster activates their effect while you have a Shaddoll card in your hand, Loading... may negate the activation, destroy that card, and send a Shaddoll card from your hand to the GY. It's a good way to interact with the opponent on either player's turn, and you can pretty easily get the required earth materials in order to make them. You also tend to have a large amount of names in hand from your recursion effects or what you naturally draw for turn, so discarding a card is usually not a hurdle either, especially since it triggers Shaddoll effects.
El Shaddoll Grysta
When a monster would be Special Summoned while you have a Shaddoll card in hand, Loading... may negate that summon, destroy that monster, and then send one Shaddoll card from your hand to the GY. Notably, this only works on inherent summons, or summons that do not result from a chain. The biggest part of this card is being the only Shaddoll fusion that can be made from a fire monster, meaning sometimes it can unclog hands if you're playing cards like Loading... .
El Shaddoll Anoyatyllis
Loading... prevents special summoning monsters from the hand or GY with Spell/Trap effects. It's a meta dependent effect, so it might vary in power level given the environment. The most important part of this card is that they're the only Shaddoll monster made with a water, meaning if you're playing a surplus of waters then sometimes you want to run this card.
El Shaddoll Wendigo
As a quick effect, Loading... can protect a monster you control from being able to be destroyed by battle with an opponent's special summoned monster. This can be useful in order to protect your Loading... from being destroyed by combat, but there's almost always a better way to do that.
Reeshaddoll Wendikuruhu
Loading... is your main way to trigger flip effects throughout a duel.
- As a quick effect, you may change any number of face-down monsters on the field to face-up Defense Position. Then, you may change monsters on the field to face-down Defense Position, up to the number of Flip monsters flipped face-up with the first part of this effect. You may not change one of the monsters you flipped face up face-down.
- When sent to the GY, you may add any Shaddoll card from your GY to your hand.
This effect doubles as not only a way to extend on your turn, it also serves as an interruption on the opponent\s turn. By flipping one of your cards up, therefore getting its flip effect, you flip one of your opponent's monsters face down. You can get face down monsters on your field through Loading... , or just setting the cards in cases where you don't need your normal summon. While you only need one for your end board, two can be appreciated for follow-up.
- Loading... : Ariel special summons a banished Shaddoll monster in face-up or face-down defense position, which can help with combo lines and recursion.
- Loading... : Tohushaddoll Grysta lets you copy the flip effect of one Shadoll monster in the GY. While this doesn't come up very often, it can be very nice for rebuilding a board on Turn 3+.
- Loading... : Dragon is the effect you will be triggering second most often off of Wendikurhu, as it bounces one card the opponent controls.
- Loading... : Squamata destroys one monster the opponent controls. It's pretty frequently used as you can special summon it off of Ariel.
- Loading... : Wendi is the least likely of these to come up, but they still come up in niche scenarios. She summons a Shaddoll monster from deck in face-up or face-down defense position.
- Loading... : Hedgehog lets you add a Shaddoll Spell/Trap from your deck to your hand. Not a very common effect to use.
- Loading... : Beast lets you draw 2 cards and discard 1 card. It sometimes comes up, but it's not all too common.
You won't really ever be triggering Loading... , Loading... or Loading... , so I've neglected to mention those.
Shaddoll Spell/Traps
Lev Shaddoll Fusion
- When Loading... is activated, you may send one Fusion Monster from the ED to the GY.
- You may tribute one Shaddoll Fusion Monster to Special Summon one Shaddoll Fusion Monster from your ED with a different attribute than the card tributed, but it's attack becomes 0.
If you use this cards effects, you are locked into only Special Summoning Shaddoll monsters from the extra deck.
This card serves as a starter via sending Loading... or Loading... , extender through the same means, or end board piece by sending a card like Loading... . Furthermore, its second effect can be useful for strengthening your end board by cheating out Shaddoll monsters from the extra deck, as well as playing through interactions and being able to tribute cards like Loading... when your turn comes back around.
Void Unleashing
- You can reveal one Shaddoll monster in your hand, and if you do, add two Shaddoll cards with a different type (Spell/Trap/Monster) than the revealed monster from your deck to your hand, then discard one card.
- You can banish this card from your GY, then add an Infernoid monster from your deck or GY to your hand.
The second effect doesn't matter in this deck aside from very rare scenarios where you need to re-send Infernoid Evil, but the first effect makes this card the decks best starter and extender. It's the way you search your trap cards pretty frequently, and is the glue that holds the deck together.
Resh Shaddoll Incarnation
- You can target one Shaddoll monster in your GY, special summon that target in face-up or face-down Defense Position.
- You can banish this card and one Shaddoll monster from your GY, and change one face-up monster you control to face-down Defense Position, or one face-down monster you control to face-up Defense Position.
You can only use one of this cards effects each turn.
You always want to play this card if you're playing Loading... , but even if you're not it's a good inclusion. It bolsters the strength of your endboard by being able to special summon a card like Loading... back to your field, as well as being another card you can search off of Loading... . It's second effect sometimes comes up as well, in situations where you don't have a Loading... in order to flip cards face up. It can sometimes clog hands if you play it however.
Shaddoll Core
- You can special summon this card as a trap monster, and it can be treated as any attribute for a Shaddoll fusion summon.
- When sent to the GY, you can add a Shaddoll Spell/Trap from your GY to your hand.
Not an awful card if you want to make a specific Shaddoll fusion monster, and the recursion effect sometimes comes in useful. It tends to be less useful than Loading... , but it sometimes comes up.
Disowned Cards
Shaddoll is fundamentally inconsistent, since most of our monsters don't really do anything in our hand and instead need to be sent to the GY to trigger their effects. In order to remedy that, we need to play generic support that can help get the cards into the GY.
The Normal Summons
The Tearlaments
Loading... on the other hand isn't nearly as good as Loading... , as they do nothing in your hand turn 1. This means they don't really function as an extender or a starter, and frequently just awkwardly sit in your hand. While it can translate to a turn 1 Loading... , it can also just send nothing useful since ultimately the hits that allow for a T1 Loading... are pretty uncommon, and it doesn't even win the game if you do hit it. Still, it can theoretically make a turn 1 Winda.

Sample Decklists
Two simple sample decklists, one playing F&V and one without. You can always choose some different variation of non-engine, engine ratios, or hand traps depending on the current metagame. Overall though, Shaddoll lists tend to look relatively similar aside from small ratios.

- El Shaddoll Fusion to fuse into a Shaddoll monster, namely Loading... or Loading...
- Loading... Book of Moon
- Loading... pop
- Loading... to fuse into a Shaddoll monster, namely Loading... or Loading...
While it doesn't look like much, it can make multiple copies of Loading... to prevent your opponent from special summoning, as well as having recursion effects for next turn, and protection for the aforementioned Loading... .

Ignoring the cards in hand, here's an example of the standard Shaddoll endboard. If your hand permits it, you can throw in an already on field Loading... , another set card like Loading... , Loading... off of Loading... , or Loading... .
