Introduction

Welcome to Sunavalon, a deck originally from the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. If you enjoy elaborate 1-card combos and link climbing, then this might be the deck for you!

By starting with just a single copy of our signature monster, Sunseed Genius Loci, Sunavalon takes the best of each plant archetype in the game and either builds huge combo boards, or prevents the opponent from playing the game with an Extra Link lockdown. This guide will cover both approaches, but first let's take a look at the core cards common to all builds.

Deckbuilding

Core - Main Deck

Sunseed Genius Loci (3)

This unassuming vanilla is the start of all of our combos. You absolutely need to see this in your opening hand, otherwise there's a good chance you won’t be able to play the game at all. Consequently, it’s expected that you’ll be running at least 12 copies (between itself, and its searchers) in 40-card lists, for an 85% chance to see it in your opening hand.

Unexpected Dai (3)
One for One (1)
Painful Decision (2-3)
Lonefire Blossom (2-3)

The aforementioned Loci searchers - these are the best of the bunch. If you want to run more, consider Piri Reis Map, Draconnet and Rescue Rabbit. These cards all have some big downsides, but fortunately they’re not needed in 40-card lists.

Sunvine Sowing (2-3)

The reason we have 1-card combos now; Sowing lets you bring out Sunseed Twin from Deck, while also triggering your Sunavalon monster’s effect. It’s searchable with your Link 1, which means that a single Loci puts 4 plants on field.

Chain ash to sunvine sowing, that card is the most important move in the deck which is also HOPT.

Shoutout to the absolute legend that is coldbose - for those who don't know they've put in mad amounts of hours testing this deck and is a huge voice in the Sunavalon community. Fantastic guide as well, but that's to be expected from cold. Plant best deck!

If you really want to, you can make Teardrop AND Sweet Marjoram along with the big tree and Benghalancer.

A similar combo can be achieved without Mardel and the sunvine shrines. This build has less junk parts and you don't have to worry about your starting hand drawing into Mardel, which will mess up the combo. Also, there are no discards in this combo, instead you can draw 1. The end board will be a bit smaller, missing Sunavalon Dryatrentiay and Sunavalon Bloom, but is more consistent.

After step 5, link Twin into another Dryas and Loci into healer. Healer heals and jasmine searches for Rose Girl (or Therion Lily if you are playing TCG). Link Jasmine and Healer to Melias. Melias special summon Loci from GY and Rose girl triggers to special summon from hand. Rose girl and Melias link into the second Jasmine, then Loci link into healer. Since Dryas is still on the field, healer heals and Jasmine searches for Laurel. Jasmine and dryas link into the 3rd Jasmine, then Twin banishes itself in the GY and the healer on the field to special summon a Jasmine from the GY. Special summon Laurel from the hand to Jasmine's link arrow. Jasmine tributes Laurel to special summon from the deck. Personally I prefer summoning Aromage Jasmine, but it depends on not drawing into it in my starting hand. Laurel when sent to GY heals, triggering 2x Aromaserphy Jasmines to double search and Aromage Jasmine to draw. You can search for excellent flood gate cards like Cactus Bouncer or Naturia Bomboo Shoot to then additionally normal summon with Aromage Jasmine's other effect. These are terrific cards to compensate the mediocre power of plant boss monsters.

Drawing Mardel doesn't brick you if you run Rikka Petal and Snowdrop. Basically, if you drew Mardel, you simply have to special summon Rikka Petal where you would normally summon Mardel in the combo. Then, use Rikka Petal to search Snowdrop, and use Snowdrop's effect to special summon Mardel. Then that gets Mardel onto the field and triggers her effect, so you can search Laurel, and keep going from there as you normally would.

A typical end board will be Benghalancer, Teardrop, Rosewhip and Cactus Bouncer/bamboo shoot. If you start with normal summoning the Loci, you need to have one the the searching card already in your hand to get the Bamboo Shoot, otherwise don't go for it. You are guaranteed to have a bamboo shoot on your end board if you start with Unexpected Dai, one for one or Rescue Rabbit (since you don't have to search for Rose girl). Additionally you will get omni-negate Therion King Regulus on your end board if you are playing TCG.
