Notes & Combos
Another season of Sky Stri-...
Wait where's Raye?
So as a HUGE fan of Vanquish Soul pre-support I really wanted to try the deck! Unfortunately, in paper the new cards came out in the same set as the Striker cards and Striker is my favorite deck, so I never really got the chance to really play with these.
I thought now would be a great time to try out the much talked about VSK9, and after playing it for a while I have some pretty strong opinons on the deck!
I won't talk about the list itself TOO much because I think it's quite standard and kind of an amalgamation of what I saw others on and what felt good to me.
Thoughts
- Turn 0 Plays: If your opponent has a very strong engine hand I don't actually think Izuna/Hollie Sue + Fire/Dark actually stops them and gets you into the grind game! (Cimo Voice) However when paired with a charmy that was already forcing them into a half-board, these interactions are WAY too much and can end the game before your first turn
- Extra Fire Attributes: I think this problem is largely overblown. You may not get a Jiao Long double fire search but you can pretty consistently have at least 1 fire in hand for all your turn 1 combos, and going second between opening a fire and all the charmies, you're very likely to see one. The other fire options just REALLY feel bad (Opening impulse + fire attacker is gut-wrenching)
- Amount of Case for K9: I felt like my win rate going 1st was already insane, so I just wanted more handtraps for going 2nd
- Purrulia: Not great into every matchup but not bad AND it can draw you into Fuwa/Maxx C. Also insulates you from Hollie AND Izuna going 1st.
- Shifter: Fiendsmith engine into Ceasar and Tear/Gem Knight were giving me a headache going 2nd, so I put this card in after some debate. It's broken; please ban.
Conclusion
I went in thinking this was a sick deck that could party on turn 0 and had a great win rate under any circumstances.
After this season I think it's not quite as good going second as I hoped (a little too reliant on Charmies resolving and playing into a half board), and a little too Auto-Win going 1st (your turn 1 board uninterrupted + follow up is ABSURD).
If I continue to play VS in the future it will be pure, even if that is the inferior version.
Replays
So I always upload matches of my climb to M1 on my youtube channel. Generally it's Sky Striker footage (and for the Striker players who may be reading this, I will have Rated Duels matches up later this month)
However, for this deck there is already SO much content out there for it and frankly my games weren't that interesting so I don't think I will be uploading VSK9 matches unless people want to see them. May upload some pure Vanquish Soul matches!
