Notes & Combos

Greetings, DM enjoyers!

The new support has breathed fresh life into a deck that struggled with consistency for a very long time. The wait was absolutely worth it, as it opens up many new avenues to enjoy the deck, with even more exciting support on the horizon.

About the Deck

The list I reached Masters with is a fairly standard combination of the Azamina, Primite, and DM packages, with the Shining Sarcophagus package on the side. Throughout the climb, I rotated between them to see what felt best (sometimes even jamming them all together).

Each package excels in different areas, but I do believe that Azamina + Primite with DM edges out slightly overall. The main reasons are better hand economy and the lack of monster effects that activate from the hand (yes, I’m looking at you, Izuna…).

The combos themselves aren’t anything fancy, just solid, standard lines that can be found in the myriad of combo guides made by players far better than myself. For more on that, consider checking out the Dark Magician channel in the Master Duel Meta Discord.

Note Regarding the Side Deck

Due to limited slots, each card is currently included at 1 copy. However, if fully committing to them:

SSDMG & Future Silence should be played at 3

Ghost Belle at 2

Shining Sarcophagus at 1–3, depending on preference

What to Keep in Mind While Climbing

  • Impulse is extremely strong and borderline mandatory heading into the VSK9 meta

  • Against VSK9, the Charmies can be fired in the Standby Phase, making them think twice before activating effects on your turn

  • Gaze is more than just an interruption; it can be used to dodge hand traps or enable OTKs in the Battle Phase without overcommitting

  • Some matches (especially against top meta decks) are simply unwinnable; it happens

  • Droll can completely kill your turn, so be very mindful of it and plan accordingly (for example, using Wanted in the Draw Phase)

  • The deck has a lot of clever interactions that help mitigate card downsides, such as: Summoning Timaeus from the GY with Master of Chaos to reapply his invulnerability; Reviving Dragoon with Master of Chaos or Selene to bypass Gaze banishing; Turning them into DMOD at the start of the turn and bringing them back with Dis Pater etc. With practice, you’ll discover many interactions like these that significantly elevate your gameplay.

Conclusion

Overall, I had an absolute blast playing this deck, and I genuinely believe this is the best time to pick it up if you haven’t already. It’s thematic, fun, and absolutely Master-worthy.
