Notes & Combos

My VS/K9 build is a little unique compared to most, First i excluisvely play Earth, Fire, and Dark monsters in the main deck, meaning no Droll or Fuwalos. I replaced those cards with Phantazmay, R-ACE Impulse, and a couple Bystials. The reason i chose to not use them is because Fuwalos is a dead card going first, and often dead on the draw too. As for Droll it isn't super impactful against VS/K9 or Dracotail, and both cards turn on the opponent's Izuna/Lupis which is obviously not ideal. The cards i used to replace Droll and Fuwa both draw me 2 cards on turn 0 anyway. So no draw power was lost, but our turn 0 play potential was increased. It also ensures all monsters in my hand are always useful attributes for the VS cards.

I think more people need to play I:P in the ED, the suite of Rank 5s you genuinely need isn't very big. And a lot of them rarely come up. I used to have a larger Rank 5 suite but VS/K9 has no answers to cards like Droplet or Evenly Matched, so i decided to put a Dragoon package in the deck. Having Dragoon as an endboard piece plays a lot better into Evenly, which was a common threat during my climb.

It's also amazing for clearing boards and closing out a duel, often you'll get through the opponent's interactions but not have what's needed to finish them, Dragoon fixes that problem. Think of him like Accesscode, summon him at the end of your MP1 to clean up the rest of the opponent's field, burn them for some damage, and swing for game with an Omni negate protecting you. Werewolf is great for ending duels but it's hard to summon him when also navigating your opponent's endbaord if you can't get to Forced Release. Dragoon doesn't have that issue.

The Dragoon package isn't really bricky in this deck either, the only true brick is Fusion. DM and Red-Eyes are fine to draw because they're Darks we can reveal for VS cards. Fusion also isn't too bad of a brick going second, because a single Dragoon summon is sometimes enough to break the boards of the mid range decks that are dominant this format. And when it isn't you can just sit on the Dragoon and then play on turn 3 with your K9 and VS cards from hand.

Some advice i have with VS/K9 is just because you can play on Turn 0, doesn't always mean you should. If your only interaction piece is Izuna, it's often better to save her for your turn rather than risk wasting her or worse losing Lupis. Also use Noroi's 2nd effect, hand knowledge is overpowered and not enough people use it.
